Description:Responsible for the organization and coordination of all on-site aspects of OMSI’s science class programs operating in local schools.
Duties:ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performing the following will involve driving to various locations outside OMSI’s corporate headquarters:

•Organize and coordinate all on-site aspects of OMSI’s science classes, including being in charge of coordinating with supply staff and Transportation coordinator for the distribution of supplies, student transportation, etc.

•Oversee and facilitate daily operations during the applicable Site science classes including troubleshooting, staff meetings and student discipline issues, does not include contact with the student’s parents. Responsible for referring student discipline issues requiring contact with student’s parents to Manager of Science Classes.

•Communicate with diverse audiences and present lively and entertaining science demonstrations.

•This position is exempt, paid salaried.

•This position is special project, working 40 hours/week.

Working Conditions:

•This position is generally open from May to September.

•Physical Demands: 10% Sitting 70% Standing 20% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling 30 Pounds

•Vision requirements include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus).

•Noise level is moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

•Mentor and train science educators, interns, and volunteers -- both youth and adult.

•Work with and support instructors, assistants, and volunteers

•Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Classes Manager.
Qualifications:KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES:

PREFERENCES:

•Nonprofit experience.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

•Bachelor’s degree in an education or science related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Working knowledge of either an educational or scientific discipline.

•Minimum 3 years of experience teaching or coordinating educational programs

•Minimum 1 year of informal experience in educational programming

PREFERENCES:

•Experience in museum, camp, or other related, non-traditional education settings

•Bilingual - Spanish/English.

•Experience working with volunteers.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES; INCLUDING LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

•Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

•Current CPR and first aid certification (training can be provided).

•Pre-employment checks such as a criminal background check and reference checks.
•Requirements in the MVR Policy including passing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and Alcohol & Drug Test for either non-CDL or CDL Drivers Policy, including pre-duty drug test.

PREFERENCES:

•Current Oregon or Washington teaching license
