|Description:||The Public Relations Coordinator performs critical support tasks working with OMSI’s Public Relations Manager. This position is responsible for responding to media requests, tracking coverage, hosting press, and developing press materials. |
|Duties:||ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: |
“Performing the following may involve driving to various locations outside OMSI’s corporate headquarters:”
•Regular coverage monitoring, categorizing and saving
•Regular results measurement and clip reporting
•Compiling and managing editorial calendars, identifying related opportunities and conducting corresponding outreach
•Responding to incoming inquiries re: media visits or requests for information, images, b-roll and other materials
•Coordinating interviews and spokesperson availability and media visits.
•Identifying media targets and building distribution lists including specific beat reporters/editors in traditional media, as well as contacts at niche trade publications and relevant bloggers
•Researching events/attractions at other venues, potential partners for promotions, and other information as needed
•Working with the marketing team as necessary to help carry out promotions and conduct related communications and outreach
•Assisting with hosting press by serving as an on-site contact and providing supervision during media visits when needed.
•Assisting with media events.
•Creating, editing and/or proofing press materials and marketing copy.
•Drafting, editing and/or proofing press releases, media alerts and updates, descriptions, pitches, captions, fact sheets, overviews, bios and other press kit materials
•Assistance drafting messaging/talking points and speeches
•Occasional creation of bylined stories or pieces
•Assistance compiling and maintaining repository of approved messaging
•Occasional copywriting for marketing and development departments
•Occasional copywriting for social media
•This position is non-exempt, paid hourly.
•This position is special project, scheduled for 24 hours/week.
•May require extended hours, including occasional weekend work
•Physical Demands: 85% Sitting 15% Standing % Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling Pounds
•Vision requirements include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus)
•Noise level is moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
•Assume other duties as assigned by the Public Relations Manager
•Strong customer service skills, including people skills.
•Advanced writing and editing skills with knowledge of AP style.
•Ability to think creatively.
•Ability to identify what drives news and compels the media.
•Excellent judgment, discretion, and sense of diplomacy
•Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral
•Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
•Strong time management skills
•Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and/or Public Relations or equivalent combination of experience and education
•Minimum 1 year of coordination and project management skills
•Working knowledge of media relations practices
•Minimum 3 years of experience in public relations field, including internships.
•Experience in fast-paced organization and/or agency
•Journalistic training or background
•Proficiency in Cision
•Familiarity with Meltwater News
•Bilingual - Spanish/English
•Experience working with volunteers.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES; INCLUDING LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
•Valid driver’s license
•Pre-employment and/or pre-duty checks, such as criminal background check, reference checks, and requirements in the MVR Policy including passing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and Alcohol & Drug Test for non-CDL Drivers Policy, including pre-duty drug test.
