|Description:||The Vice President of Exhibits is responsible for strategic direction and performance of OMSI's exhibits program and the educational impacts they create. Responsibilities include overseeing the implementation of key strategic initiatives, and the development of exhibit projects from ideation to distribution of the final project, as a member of the Project Strategy Team. The Vice President is accountable for creating an integrated guest experience in the museum, and a high-quality, effective learning environment, aligned with OMSI’s goals. The Vice President is an advocate for informal science education, a spokesperson for OMSI in the community, and skilled in creating and sustaining strategic partnerships with other organizations, locally and nationally. The Vice President is a collaborative member of the Senior Leadership Team, and reports directly to the President. |
|Duties:||ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
Performing the following will involve driving to various locations outside OMSI’s corporate headquarters:
•Achieve educational and business goals as determined by the organization's strategic plan.
•Lead the production of exhibits that are sturdy, educationally effective, support OMSI's brand, and are produced on time and on budget. Focus on developing projects on shorter cycle times and innovative methods to produce rapid response to current events.
•Lead and direct implementation of cross-functional project development process, through clear goals, decision processes, and accountabilities; develop leaders among staff
•Develop and manage business plans and budgets for exhibits and related activities
•Ensure that OMSI’s exhibits address the needs of OMSI’s diverse audiences, including museum visitors and members, the formal education community, urban and rural communities, and underserved audiences.
•Assess and manage performance of exhibits and related activities to meet goals and objectives of the audience model. Provide clear performance metrics.
•Develop strategic partnerships and collaborations with community stakeholders
•Advocate for OMSI’s educational mission in the formal and informal education, scientific, and business communities at the local, state and national level
•Develop proposals and presentations that support fundraising efforts
•Foster an environment of teamwork and commitment of total resources throughout the organization by developing and improving methods of effective communication
•This position is exempt, paid salaried.
•This position is regular full-time, working 40 hours/week.

•Demonstrated knowledge of trends and issues in science education in both formal and informal learning environments
•Passion for science education and informal learning
•Team oriented leadership, management and training skills, with people of diverse talents and backgrounds
•Demonstrated knowledge of educational best practices and assessment in informal learning environments; including visitor attractions
•Strong presentation skills and excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and customer service skills to work effectively with people of diverse talents and backgrounds, including writing and public speaking.
•Understanding of confidentiality and protocol.
•Experience in Financial Edge, or other database program.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
•Minimum 8 years of progressive program management, including staff supervision, multiple project management, and budget responsibility.
•Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in strategic business management at an executive level preferably in a non-profit, learning organization
•Minimum 8 years experience in delivering engaging educational experiences, preferably in a visitor attraction or related informal learning environment
•Minimum 4 year of experience working with the public, formal and informal settings.
•Bilingual - Spanish/English.
•Experience working with volunteers.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES; INCLUDING LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
•Valid driver’s license.
•Pre-employment and/or pre-duty checks, such as criminal background check, reference checks, and requirements in the MVR Policy including passing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and Alcohol & Drug Test for non-CDL Drivers Policy, including pre-duty drug test.
